Jammu: In a step towards improving facilities for Amarnath Yatra pilgrims, Jammu East MLA Yudhvir Sethi and JMC Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav inaugurated a newly constructed open shed on the rooftop of the historic Sri Ram Mandir at Purani Mandi today.
Facility Built Under SANJY Project
The project, completed at a cost of ₹44.51 lakh, was undertaken as part of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY) Project. It is part of the broader infrastructure initiative titled “Construction of Bathing cum Toilet Blocks including Open Shed at Roof Top”, aimed at enhancing amenities for pilgrims traveling to the sacred Amarnath Cave Shrine.
Boosting Pilgrimage Infrastructure
Speaking at the event, MLA Yudhvir Sethi praised the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) for its proactive role in developing infrastructure at religious and heritage locations. He said the project would further strengthen Jammu’s role as a vital base camp for the annual pilgrimage and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the experience and safety of yatris.
Dignified Shelter for Devotees
JMC Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav stated that the open shed will provide a clean, shaded, and dignified space for pilgrims, especially helpful during peak yatra seasons. He highlighted that the facility addresses the practical needs of yatris coming from various parts of the country.
Community Celebration
The inauguration ceremony included distribution of prasad to devotees, symbolizing communal harmony and service. The event saw participation from temple committee members, local citizens, JMC officials, and pilgrims.
Spiritual and Civic Support
Mahant Shri Rameshwar Dass Ji Maharaj, head of Sri Ram Mandir, expressed his gratitude, calling the new facility a long-pending necessity for events like Ram Navami, Diwali, and the Amarnath Yatra. The presence of Executive Engineer Div-I Rajesh Kumar and a large gathering highlighted the community’s support for such developmental initiatives.
The project aligns with JMC’s broader vision of inclusive urban growth, prioritizing infrastructure that supports religious tourism, cultural preservation, and public welfare.
