Cabinet Applauds Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla’s Mission

Published on

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has unanimously adopted a resolution lauding Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla for his historic space mission and applauding the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and India’s scientific community for making this achievement possible.

Briefing the media today, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said Shukla’s mission represents a major leap forward in India’s space exploration journey and brings the nation closer to realizing its goal of building its own space station. “This mission is a vital stepping stone towards India’s human spaceflight programme including Gaganyaan and the Bharatiya Antariksha Station,” he said.

Group Captain Shukla returned safely to Earth yesterday, after completing an 18-day stay aboard the International Space Station as part of the Axiom-4 mission. The Minister said that Shukla’s presence in space represents the “infinite aspirations of India.”

Vaishnaw also highlighted the pioneering experiments conducted by Shukla in microgravity, including studies on muscle regeneration, algal and microbial growth, crop viability, cognitive performance in space, and the behaviour of cyanobacteria. These findings, he noted, will not only contribute to global scientific knowledge but also support India’s future human spaceflight missions.
