Deepika Becomes First Indian to Win Poligras Magic Skill Award

Published on

Indian women’s hockey forward Deepika has etched her name in history by becoming the first Indian player to win the prestigious Poligras Magic Skill Award, an honour celebrating the most creative and skilful moment in the FIH Hockey Pro League.

Deepika’s Magic Moment Shines Against World No. 1 Netherlands

The 21-year-old received global fan acclaim for her sensational solo goal during India’s clash with the Netherlands in Bhubaneswar last season. With India trailing 0-2, Deepika made a breathtaking solo run in the 35th minute—dribbling down the left flank, maneuvering past defenders along the baseline, lifting the ball over a stick, and slotting it past the Dutch goalkeeper to ignite India’s comeback.

Although the match ended in a 2-2 draw and India lost in the shootout, Deepika’s field goal was widely celebrated and ultimately earned her this fan-voted award.

Deepika Dedicates Award to Indian Hockey

Reacting to the honour, Deepika said, “I am truly honoured to have won this award. Scoring that goal against a tough team like the Netherlands was a special moment. I thank my teammates, coaches, family, and friends who support and inspire me daily.”

She further added, “This award isn’t just mine—it belongs to Indian hockey. Let’s keep pushing forward together.”
