KOLKATA: The commissioning of INS Dunagiri INS Sanshodhak INS Agray marks a significant milestone in India’s push for defence self-reliance and maritime strength. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inducted the three advanced naval platforms into the Indian Navy during a ceremony in Kolkata, describing the occasion as a major step toward a secure, self-reliant and developed India.

According to the government, more than 40 indigenous warships and submarines have joined the Navy in recent years, while 45 major naval platforms are currently under construction. The three newly inducted vessels were built with contributions from over 200 MSMEs, demonstrating the growing role of domestic industry in defence production.

The second-order impact extends well beyond national security. Increased indigenous shipbuilding can generate employment, strengthen industrial supply chains and encourage technological innovation across sectors such as steel, electronics and heavy engineering.
