  • Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan reviewed arrangements at the NTA headquarters.

NEW DELHI: The NEET UG Re-Exam 2026 was held on Sunday under heightened security measures across India and abroad, marking a crucial step in restoring confidence in one of the country’s largest entrance examinations. The retest was conducted after the earlier examination held on May 3 was cancelled amid an ongoing investigation into an alleged question paper leak.

More than 22 lakh candidates were expected to appear for the examination, making it one of the largest academic exercises in the country. Authorities implemented strict monitoring and security protocols to ensure the process remained transparent and disruption-free.

NEET UG Re-Exam 2026 Conducted at Thousands of Centres

The National Testing Agency (NTA) organised the examination at 5,440 centres across 551 cities in India. In addition, 14 examination centres were set up overseas to accommodate candidates appearing from abroad.

The large-scale logistical operation required extensive coordination among examination authorities, local administrations and security agencies. Officials focused on ensuring secure transportation of examination materials, identity verification and strict compliance with examination guidelines.

The retest was closely watched because of concerns raised after allegations of a question paper leak led to the cancellation of the previous examination.

Why NEET UG Re-Exam 2026 Is Significant

The successful conduct of the re-examination is important not only for medical aspirants but also for the credibility of the country’s examination system. The controversy surrounding the cancelled examination had raised serious concerns regarding fairness and transparency.

The second-order impact extends beyond admissions. A smooth and secure examination process is expected to help rebuild trust among students, parents and educational institutions. It may also influence future reforms aimed at strengthening examination security and preventing similar incidents.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan personally reviewed preparations and monitoring mechanisms at the National Testing Agency headquarters in Delhi’s Okhla. His visit underscored the government’s focus on ensuring that the examination was conducted without irregularities.

As candidates now await the next phase of the admission process, attention will shift toward evaluation, results and counselling, which will determine entry into medical colleges across the country.
