New Delhi: The Centre has reduced the LPG refill booking interval from 45 days to 25 days for domestic consumers across India, Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi said on Monday.
The revised rule will apply uniformly to consumers in both urban and rural areas and will take effect immediately.
Gopi shared a copy of the Petroleum Ministry’s letter to oil marketing companies (OMCs) in a Facebook post. The ministry said the change was made after LPG supply conditions improved and refill backlogs declined.
LPG Refill Booking Interval Reduced to 25 Days
The Petroleum Ministry had earlier introduced different booking intervals during the Middle East conflict in February 2026.
At that time, the government had prescribed a 25-day booking interval for urban consumers and 45 days for rural consumers as a temporary demand-management measure.
The measure was introduced amid pressure on LPG supplies following the conflict.
The latest order removes the difference between urban and rural consumers. A uniform 25-day inter-refill booking gap will now apply to all domestic LPG consumers.
Why the LPG Booking Rule Was Changed
According to the ministry’s letter, the current LPG supply position has improved compared with the situation when the demand-management measures were introduced.
The ministry also noted a considerable reduction in refill backlogs.
Based on these developments, the government decided to revise the existing booking interval and set the 25-day gap uniformly across the country.
IOCL, BPCL and HPCL Asked to Implement New Rule
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has directed the three state-run oil marketing companies to implement the revised LPG booking interval.
These companies are:
- Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL)
- Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL)
- Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL)
The companies have been instructed to implement the 25-day inter-refill booking interval for domestic LPG consumers in urban and rural areas with immediate effect.
Government Takes Steps to Strengthen LPG Supply
The latest booking-rule change comes alongside other measures aimed at strengthening domestic cooking-gas supplies.
Earlier, the government had set maximum LPG production targets for 24 refinery and upstream oil companies.
Together, these companies have a production capacity of 63.81 thousand metric tonnes per day (KTPD).
The move was aimed at increasing domestic LPG availability and improving the country’s resilience against possible supply disruptions.
With the booking interval now standardised at 25 days, domestic LPG consumers in rural areas will have the same refill booking gap as urban consumers.
