Mahua Moitra’s ‘Infiltration’ Remark Against Amit Shah Sparks BJP Outrage, Police Complaint Filed
Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra has once again found herself in the eye of a political storm, this time over her alleged remarks about Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the issue of infiltration from Bangladesh.
The BJP strongly condemned her statement and filed a police complaint at Kotwali police station in Krishnanagar, West Bengal, on Friday, escalating tensions between the ruling TMC and the opposition party.
Mahua Moitra Targets Amit Shah Over Border Security
Speaking to reporters in Nadia district, Moitra said:
“They are repeatedly talking about infiltrators; but the border of India is protected by five forces, and that is directly the Home Ministry’s responsibility.”
She further hit out at Amit Shah for “failing to curb infiltration” while shifting blame to the TMC government. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day speech, Moitra added:
“Standing at Red Fort, the PM himself said infiltrators are causing demographic changes. But even as he was saying this, his Home Minister was standing in the front row, smiling and clapping.”
BJP Slams Moitra, Calls Remarks ‘Deeply Objectionable’
BJP leaders reacted sharply to Moitra’s comments, describing them as “an insult to democratic discourse.”
Party leader Rahul Sinha said:
“The distasteful and objectionable remarks only reflect the mindset of the person and the TMC. We would like to know if this is the official line of the TMC. If not, they must tender an apology and take action against Moitra.”
The BJP has demanded strict action against the Krishnanagar MP, accusing her of repeatedly making controversial remarks.
Mahua Moitra Hits Back at BJP
Amid growing criticism, Moitra took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to accuse the BJP of amplifying her remarks.
She wrote:
“Modus operandi of BJP troll cell – pick one issue, give it to all resident twits (& an ‘a’ instead of an ‘i’ would be just as well) & make it viral on social media.”
Moitra’s sharp response has further fueled the controversy, ensuring the row will remain a flashpoint in West Bengal politics in the days to come.
