Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police have launched an investigation after a minor girl was rescued from a guest house in Bhubaneswar, exposing a suspected sex trafficking racket operating in the city. Police teams visited the guest house, examined the registers and documents, and questioned several individuals linked to the case.
Minor Girl Rescued in Bhubaneswar: Pimp Arrested
According to reports, the rescue took place in the Unit-3 area of the capital. The accused, identified as Mahendra Patra from Malisahi, allegedly lured the girl with a fake job offer as a receptionist and brought her from a ladies’ hostel in Baramunda to the guest house.
The incident came to light when the minor was found crying inside room 103. The pimp was reportedly forcing her into an illicit act in front of another man, believed to be a customer. Alert staff members immediately contacted the police with help from the girl’s relatives, leading to her timely rescue.
Police Launch Probe into Trafficking Racket
Based on CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts, police arrested Mahendra Patra and registered a case against him under sections related to human trafficking and exploitation of a minor. He has been produced in court.
Suspected Larger Racket Under Scanner
Officials believe that a larger prostitution network may be operating in Bhubaneswar, using job offers as a cover to target vulnerable girls. Police are now tracing other individuals connected to the accused and examining the guest house’s involvement, if any.
Authorities have assured strict action against all those involved in the crime. The rescued girl is now under the care of child welfare officials for counseling and rehabilitation.
