Neeraj Chopra world No.1 in World Athletics men’s javelin throw

New Delhi: Neeraj Chopra world No.1 in World Athletics men’s javelin throw, who won the men’s javelin throw gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. The Indian javelin throw ace topped the ranking charts with 1455 points. The 25-year-old Chopra recently won the season-opening Doha Diamond League.

Neeraj Chopra became the first sportsperson from India to win the prestigious Diamond League trophy when he triumphed in the Diamond League 2022 finals in Zurich in September of last year. After the victory in Zurich, he was forced to miss time due to an injury.

Neeraj Chopra, who currently owns the men’s javelin throw national record for India, competed again at the season-opening Doha Diamond League on May 5 of this year and took first place with a throw of 88.67 metres. At the Doha event, Anderson Peters achieved 85.88m to place third.

Neeraj Chopra will benefit from the top spot as he prepares to compete on June 4 in the Netherlands at the FBK Games 2023. He also confirmed his participation at the Paavo Nurmi Games 2023 in Turku, Finland, on June 13.

The 2023 season is expected to be a pivotal one for Neeraj Chopra because of the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.

Neeraj Chopra will compete at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest in addition to defending his Diamond League title and winning the gold medal in the javelin event at the Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic, who won the silver medal in Tokyo 2020, is currently ranked third with 1,416 points, followed by Julian Webber of Germany. The Commonwealth Games champion from Pakistan, Arshad Nadeem, rounds out the top five.

Other Indian javelin throwers in the top 20 are world No. 15 Rohit Yadav and No. 17 DP Manu.
