Odisha Petrol Bottle Ban Sparks Trouble: Youth Hires Pickup Van to Refuel Bike in Cuttack

Cuttack: The enforcement of the “no petrol in plastic bottles” rule in Odisha has started causing inconvenience to citizens, forcing them to find creative alternatives to fuel their vehicles. The directive, which came into effect on July 22, was issued by Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra.

Youth Hires Tata Ace to Fuel Bike

In a bizarre yet telling incident from Narasinghpur in Cuttack district, a youth faced a unique dilemma while returning from Angul. His motorcycle ran out of petrol mid-journey. Due to the state-wide ban on carrying petrol in plastic bottles, he couldn’t ask anyone to bring him fuel — despite having access to an empty bottle.

Stranded around 5 kilometers away from the nearest petrol station, the young man ultimately hired a Tata Ace (mini truck) to transport his two-wheeler to the Narasinghpur HP petrol pump. This not only cost him financially but also delayed his journey by over four hours.

Video Goes Viral on Social Media

A video capturing the incident — where the bike is seen being hauled in a pickup van to the petrol pump — has gone viral across various social media platforms, highlighting public reactions to the new rule.

People Turn to Alternatives

Elsewhere in Odisha, residents are adapting to the situation by carrying fuel in alternative containers like tin or aluminum cans to comply with the new regulation, though challenges remain for those unaware or unprepared.
