  KEY TAKEAWAYS:
  • Odisha government said petrol and diesel stocks remain sufficient across the state.
  • No fuel station has been ordered to shut down, Minister Krushna Chandra Patra said.
  • The state warned that global tensions could increase fuel prices in the future.

Bhubaneswar: The Government of Odisha on Tuesday clarified that there is no shortage of petrol and diesel in the state and assured citizens that fuel stations are operating normally.

Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra dismissed speculation surrounding a possible fuel crisis and said there is adequate fuel stock both in Odisha and across the country.

“There is no shortage of petrol and diesel in the state. Fuel is available everywhere and whoever needs fuel will get it,” the Minister said.

Odisha Petrol Diesel Supply Remains Stable

The clarification comes amid growing public concern following discussions around global fuel pressures linked to ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

According to the Minister, no directive has been issued by the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department to close any fuel station in Odisha.

The government said it is continuously monitoring the supply situation to prevent panic and maintain uninterrupted distribution.

The reassurance is significant because rumors around shortages often trigger panic buying, which can create artificial supply disruptions even when adequate stock exists.

Why Odisha Is Warning About Fuel Consumption

While ruling out an immediate shortage, Krushna Chandra Patra urged citizens to use fuel responsibly due to uncertainty in international energy markets.

He said tensions in the Middle East could impact global fuel supplies and gradually push prices upward in the coming months.

The Minister also clarified that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had urged people to reduce unnecessary fuel consumption as a precautionary economic measure rather than as a sign of an ongoing crisis.

The second-order effect of prolonged geopolitical conflict is usually seen through rising import costs, inflation and pressure on government subsidies, especially in countries heavily dependent on crude oil imports like India.

Government Signals Economic Caution Amid Global Uncertainty

The Odisha government said additional financial burdens are being absorbed to protect economically weaker sections from possible fuel price shocks.

Patra also appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary gold purchases for some time, echoing the Centre’s broader push to conserve foreign exchange reserves during global economic uncertainty.

The appeal reflects growing concern among policymakers about balancing inflation control, fuel imports and economic stability if international conflicts continue to affect crude oil markets.

For now, authorities maintain that Odisha’s fuel supply chain remains stable and there is no reason for panic buying or concern over availability.
