Bolangir: Payal Nag, who won gold at the World Para Archery Series 2026, received a grand felicitation at Gudighat Chhak in Muribahal block of Bolangir district after returning to her native village Jamunabahal.
The felicitation programme was organised jointly by the district administration and the sports department to honour her remarkable international achievement.
Payal Nag’s Historic Gold Medal Triumph
Payal created history in Bangkok by defeating world number one Sheetal Devi to clinch the gold medal for India, earning widespread recognition in the para-sports community.
Her victory brought immense pride to Odisha, particularly to her hometown, where villagers welcomed her with traditional music, celebrations and a warm reception.
The second-order effect of her success could inspire greater participation in para sports across Odisha while encouraging stronger support systems for differently-abled athletes.
Journey of Determination and Courage
Born to Bijaya Nag and Janata Nag, Payal lost both her arms and legs at the age of five due to a disability.
Despite immense challenges, she pursued archery with extraordinary determination and perseverance, eventually emerging as one of India’s promising para archers.
Her journey has made her a symbol of resilience and inspiration for young athletes and differently-abled children across the country.
