PIB Fact Check Debunks Fake Claims About Vice President’s Residence Being Sealed

Published on

New Delhi: The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check unit has dismissed viral claims circulating on social media alleging that the official residence of the Vice President of India has been sealed and the former Vice President asked to vacate immediately.

In a firm rebuttal posted on X (formerly Twitter), PIB labelled the viral posts as “fake” and urged the public not to fall for misinformation.

PIB Urges Caution Against Misinformation

The official post from PIB Fact Check reads:

“It is being widely claimed on social media that Vice President’s official residence has been sealed and former VP has been asked to vacate his residence immediately.”

#PIBFactCheck ❌ These claims are #Fake. ✅ Don’t fall for misinformation. Always verify news from official sources before sharing it.”

The government agency reiterated the importance of verifying news from credible and official channels, especially when it pertains to sensitive constitutional positions.

The misleading claims began circulating online following recent political developments, including the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. However, no such action involving the sealing of the residence or forced eviction has taken place, as confirmed by the PIB.

This incident highlights the growing need for digital literacy and responsible sharing of information on social media platforms. With the speed at which unverified posts can go viral, PIB and other agencies continue to stress the role of official channels in curbing fake news.
