PM Modi Highlights Operation Sindoor and National Pride in Independence Day Speech

Published on

The nation marked its 79th Independence Day today with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the celebrations from the historic Red Fort in Delhi. After hoisting the National Flag, Mr Modi addressed the nation from the ramparts of the monument, paying tribute to the courageous soldiers who took part in Operation Sindoor. He described the mission as a powerful display of the Indian Armed Forces’ precision and bravery and stated that the government had given the forces full freedom to plan and execute the operation.

The Prime Minister said that Indian soldiers gave a strong and unexpected response to the enemy, striking deep inside Pakistani territory and destroying terrorist headquarters hundreds of kilometres away. Referring to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, he remarked that Operation Sindoor was a clear expression of the Indian people’s anger and that the days of tolerating both “blood and water flowing together” were over. He added that the public has now realised the injustice of the Indus Waters Treaty.

Mr Modi stressed that India will not tolerate nuclear blackmail. He described this Independence Day as a festival of hope and expressed that it reflects the resolution of 140 crore people and the country’s shared achievements. He emphasised that the spirit of unity is growing stronger across the nation and noted that the Constitution of India has been a guiding light for 75 years.

The Prime Minister also highlighted that the nation is celebrating the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee and said the abrogation of Article 370 was a true tribute to his vision of “One Nation, One Constitution.” He addressed recent natural disasters, including landslides and cloudbursts, and said both the State and Central governments are actively working on rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi visited Rajghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi before arriving at the Red Fort, where he was received by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth. He later received the Guard of Honour. As he hoisted the National Flag, two Mi-17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force showered flower petals — one carrying the national flag and the other a flag depicting Operation Sindoor.

Across the country, celebrations were held with great enthusiasm. In Arunachal Pradesh, all preparations have been completed for the 79th Independence Day. The main state-level ceremony will be held at IG Park in Itanagar, where Chief Minister Pema Khandu will hoist the National Flag and take the salute from the ceremonial march-past.

Prime Minister Modi underlined the bravery of Indian soldiers during Operation Sindoor, asserted that India will no longer accept nuclear blackmail, and called the abrogation of Article 370 a tribute to Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee. He stressed the growing unity and resolve of the nation and described Independence Day as a collective festival of hope.

The Prime Minister urged all citizens to draw inspiration from freedom fighters and work together to build a secure, developed and united India. He also assured that the government is fully engaged in relief efforts following recent natural disasters, reaffirming the nation’s determination to face challenges together.
