  KEY TAKEAWAYS:
  • SAMPANN has been integrated with the UMANG platform to provide pension services digitally.
  • Nearly 4 lakh telecom pensioners can now access PPO and Life Certificate details online.
  • The move reduces physical visits and strengthens transparent, pensioner-centric governance.

New Delhi: India’s digital governance framework has advanced further with the SAMPANN UMANG integration, enabling pensioners to access essential pension-related information anytime, anywhere. The initiative is designed to simplify service delivery for senior citizens while reducing dependence on physical office visits.

The integration allows pensioners from the Department of Telecommunications to view critical pension records through a single, unified digital platform.

What the SAMPANN UMANG Integration Offers Pensioners

With the SAMPANN portal now available on UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance), nearly four lakh pensioners can access their Pension Payment Order (PPO) details and check the validity of their Life Certificate online.

These services ensure uninterrupted pension disbursement and help retirees stay informed without administrative hurdles.

What Is SAMPANN and Why It Matters

SAMPANN (System for Accounting and Management of Pension) is a flagship digital platform developed by the Office of the Controller General of Communication Accounts.

Dedicated to the nation in December 2018, SAMPANN manages the entire pension lifecycle from case processing and payment to grievance redressal. It reflects a shift toward pensioner-centric governance by enabling direct bank transfers and fully digital service access.

Key Pension Services Now Available on UMANG

Currently, two major SAMPANN services can be accessed through UMANG:

  • PPO Number Retrieval: Pensioners can find their PPO number by entering bank or post office account details along with date of birth.
  • Life Certificate Validity Check: Users can verify whether their Life Certificate is valid, ensuring uninterrupted pension payments.

Officials say these features are especially helpful for elderly pensioners who may face difficulties with repeated documentation.

DigiLocker and Secure Digital Access

According to Ashish Joshi, Principal Controller of Communication Accounts, the integration improves transparency, efficiency, and ease of access. Combined with DigiLocker, pensioners can securely store and retrieve important documents whenever required.

Authentication on UMANG is supported through Aadhaar, MPIN, or DigiLocker credentials.

UMANG’s Role in Digital India Vision

Launched under the Digital India initiative, UMANG offers access to services from Central, State, and Local governments via mobile app and web portal on Android, iOS, and desktop platforms.

The SAMPANN UMANG integration underscores India’s push toward inclusive, technology-driven governance making pension services simpler, faster, and more accessible for millions of retirees nationwide.
