World Water Day 2025 Theme
The theme of World Water Day 2025 is ‘Glacier Preservation’.
Glaciers are vital to life; their meltwater is used for drinking water, agriculture, industry, clean energy production, and healthy ecosystems. Rapidly melting glaciers disrupt water flows, with far-reaching consequences for humans and the environment.
Carbon emissions must be reduced globally, as well as local strategies for adapting to diminishing glaciers.
The United Nations founded World Water Day in 1992, when it convened the Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. During the meeting, a resolution was voted that formally designated March 22nd as World Water Day.
The inaugural observation of the day occurred on March 22, 1993, and marked the start of an annual global endeavor.
Significance of World Water Day
The major purpose of World Water Day is to recognise the importance of water to our planet. Beyond celebration, it serves as a platform to highlight the grave water problem that is affecting millions of people around the world.
Currently, around 2.2 billion people lack access to safe drinking water. There are several events planned around the country and around the world to raise awareness about water conservation.
