IMD Issues Yellow Warning for Odisha: Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Predicted

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Warning for several districts of Odisha, alerting residents about heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over the next three days.

A low-pressure area over the region is expected to trigger widespread showers and stormy conditions, with surface winds reaching speeds of 30โ€“40 kmph, the IMD said.


IMD Yellow Warning for Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms in Odisha

According to the forecast, heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely to lash Kalahandi and Nabarangpur districts.
Additionally, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are predicted in 25 districts, including:

  • Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati
  • Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj
  • Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri

Thunderstorm and Lightning Alert for September 15

On September 15, the IMD has warned of thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds in the following districts:

  • Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur
  • Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal
  • Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh

Similar weather conditions are expected to continue on September 16, with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds likely in:

  • Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur
  • Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal
  • Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj

IMD Advises Caution to Residents

The IMD has urged residents in the affected districts to remain alert, avoid taking shelter under trees during lightning, and follow safety advisories issued by local authorities. Farmers, fishermen, and outdoor workers have been advised to take precautions to prevent accidents due to sudden weather changes.
