Naveen Patnaik Alleges BJP’s Violation of Election Silence Period in Nuapada

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has raised serious concerns over alleged violations of the Election Commission’s guidelines during the silence period in Nuapada. According to him, political leaders and ministers from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are staying in the constituency even after the 36-hour silence period began, which goes against the election rules. He has urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take immediate action to ensure free and fair polling.

BJP Violation in Nuapada Raises Concerns Over Electoral Fairness

Naveen Patnaik claimed that several BJP leaders, ministers and MLAs from outside Nuapada are freely moving in the area during the legally mandated silence period. As per ECI rules, all campaigners from outside the constituency must leave once the silence period starts. The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) alleged that these actions are an attempt to influence voters and manipulate the outcome of the election.

District Administration Accused of Acting Partisan in Nuapada

The BJD alleged that when its local leaders objected to these violations, they were detained by the police. Naveen Patnaik stated that such incidents show clear bias by the local administration and police, who appear to be acting in favour of the ruling party at the Centre. This, he warned, compromises the neutrality expected during elections and weakens public trust in the democratic process.

Naveen Patnaik Seeks Election Commission’s Urgent Action

In his appeal to the Election Commission, Naveen Patnaik requested strict enforcement of the 36-hour silence period and demanded that BJP leaders from outside Nuapada vacate the area immediately. He also urged the ECI to direct officials to act impartially and monitor sensitive polling booths identified by opposition parties to prevent voter manipulation.

Call to Protect Democratic Values in Nuapada Elections

Patnaik reminded that India’s democracy was built through the sacrifices of its forefathers, emphasizing the responsibility of every institution to safeguard its integrity. He said any attempt to weaken the fairness of elections would erode people’s faith in democratic institutions and cast a shadow over the credibility of the poll process.
