Bijapur: A major Maoist encounter in Bijapur unfolded on Friday morning, resulting in the killing of two armed cadres, including a key commander, during an ongoing security operation. The clash broke out in the dense forest region of Bijapur district after forces moved in on precise intelligence about Maoist movement in the area.

Senior Maoist Commander Neutralised

Police sources identified one of the slain Maoists as Dilip Bedja, the chief of the National Park Area Committee of the outlawed group. Another armed cadre was also killed, and the bodies have been recovered from the encounter site.

There were unconfirmed reports suggesting the possible presence of senior Maoist leader Paparao, also known as Papa Rao, in the area. Authorities said official confirmation on his status is still awaited.

Intelligence-Based Operation Triggers Gunfight

The encounter began after a joint team of the District Reserve Guard launched a search and cordon operation based on actionable intelligence. As security personnel closed in, Maoist cadres opened fire, triggering a fierce exchange.

The operation is part of a sustained crackdown on insurgent networks across the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.
