Jashipur: A tragic Mayurbhanj car accident on National Highway 220 claimed one life and left four others critically injured early this morning in Odisha. The crash occurred near Gidhibasa Chhaka when a small hatchback lost control and slammed into a roadside electric pole.

The data suggests that early morning highway travel, combined with possible driver fatigue or reduced visibility, may have played a role. Authorities have not confirmed the exact cause yet, but the impact was severe enough to kill one passenger on the spot.

According to police sources, the deceased has been identified as Saroj Mukhi from Bhandaripokhari under Jashipur Police Station limits.

What Happened in the Mayurbhanj Car Accident on NH 220

Five people were returning in an Alto car after attending the Dolamilana festival at Karanjia. Near Gidhibasa Chhaka, the driver reportedly lost control of the steering.

The vehicle veered off course and crashed into an electric pole along the roadside. The force of the collision caused fatal injuries to Saroj Mukhi, who died instantly.

Locals rushed to the scene and alerted the police. Emergency response teams shifted the injured to nearby medical facilities without delay.

Victims Undergoing Treatment in Multiple Hospitals

Four injured passengers remain in critical condition. One has been referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment. Another is admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Keonjhar.

The remaining two victims are receiving treatment at a nearby local hospital. Doctors are closely monitoring their condition.

What the market is missing is the growing pattern of high impact crashes on state highways during festival seasons. Increased vehicular movement, night travel, and fatigue often combine to create high risk conditions.

Police Investigation Underway

Jashipur Police Station officials reached the accident site shortly after receiving information. A formal investigation has begun to determine whether speeding, mechanical failure, or driver negligence contributed to the incident.

National Highway 220 connects several key towns in northern Odisha and often sees heavy traffic during local festivals. Road safety experts argue that better lighting, stricter speed monitoring, and driver awareness campaigns are urgently needed.

The incident once again raises serious concerns about highway safety standards in Odisha. Authorities are expected to release further updates as the probe progresses.
