- SBI BSBD account charges will change from October 1, 2026.
- Customers will continue to receive four free cash withdrawals every month.
- Withdrawals beyond the free limit will cost ₹15 plus GST per transaction.
MUMBAI: The State Bank of India (SBI) is set to revise charges for Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) accounts from October 1, 2026, changing how customers are charged for cash withdrawals beyond the monthly free limit.
Under the revised structure, BSBD account holders will retain four free cash withdrawals every month. Once that limit is exhausted, every additional cash withdrawal will attract a charge of ₹15 plus applicable GST.
The change is particularly relevant for customers who frequently use ATMs or other cash withdrawal channels instead of digital banking.
SBI BSBD Account Charges Include AePS Transactions
SBI has clarified that digital transactions will continue to remain free, without a specified transaction limit. This effectively encourages customers to use online and digital payment channels for routine banking activities.
Another important change concerns the Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS). Transactions through AePS will now be included within the four free monthly cash transactions available to BSBD account holders.
This means customers who regularly withdraw cash through AePS will need to keep track of their monthly transactions to avoid additional charges.
SBI BSBD Account Charges Encourage Digital Banking
The revised structure creates a clear difference between cash-based and digital banking.
Customers who primarily use online transactions can continue using digital channels without the additional cash withdrawal fee. Those who depend heavily on physical cash withdrawals, however, could see their banking costs increase once they cross the four-transaction threshold.
For low-income and basic-account customers, the practical impact will depend largely on how often they need cash during a month.
SBI Financial Performance Remains Strong
The announcement comes as SBI continues to report strong financial performance.
For the first quarter of FY27, the bank reported a 10.23% year-on-year increase in net profit to ₹21,121 crore. Net interest income rose 14.9% to ₹46,992 crore, while operating profit increased 9.8% to ₹33,529 crore.
The bank attributed the performance to factors including loan growth and lower provisions for bad loans.
SBI shares were trading at around ₹1,048.05 on the BSE on Thursday, compared with a 52-week high of ₹1,234.80 and a low of ₹798.60.
For BSBD customers, however, the immediate focus will be on the revised withdrawal rules. From October 1, customers making more than four cash transactions in a month will need to factor the ₹15 plus GST charge into their banking costs.
The continued availability of free digital transactions gives customers an alternative, particularly for routine payments and transfers that do not require physical cash.
