BHUBANESWAR: Dr Ashutosh Parida, an Odia poet, essayist and former scientist, has been selected for the Sarala Puraskar 2026 for his poetry collection Bishwas De Pruthwi. The book was published by Prabha Publication in 2024.
The recognition places Parida among the leading contemporary voices in Odia literature. The award will be formally presented at a cultural programme in Bhubaneswar on October 25.
Sarala Puraskar 2026 Recognises Bishwas De Pruthwi
The Sarala Puraskar was established in 1980 by the Indian Metals Public Charitable Trust (IMPaCT) to recognise significant contributions to Odia literature.
Parida’s winning collection emerged from a final selection that included seven literary works. The shortlisted authors included Aparna Mohanty, Padmaja Pal, Archana Nayak, Bijay Nayak, Prakash Mahapatra and Ramesh Prasad Panigrahi.
A jury comprising prominent writers and academics evaluated the shortlisted works before selecting Parida’s collection for the 47th edition of the award.
Sarala Puraskar 2026 Carries ₹7 Lakh Prize
The winner will receive a cash prize of ₹7 lakh, along with a citation and copper plaque.
The award ceremony in October will bring together writers, academics and cultural figures to celebrate Parida’s contribution to Odia literary expression.
The recognition also adds to the long-running effort to support Odia literature and preserve the state’s distinctive literary tradition.
Ila-Bansidhar Panda Kala Samman 2026 Announced
IMPaCT has also announced the recipients of the Ila-Bansidhar Panda Kala Samman 2026, an honour recognising lifetime contributions to the arts.
Odissi maestro Guru Durga Charan Ranbir and noted sculptor and educator Damodar Behera will each receive ₹2.5 lakh, a citation and a copper plaque.
The two awards together highlight different aspects of Odisha’s cultural landscape, from contemporary literature to classical dance and visual arts.
IMPaCT’s recognition programmes have played a continuing role in promoting Odisha’s literary and cultural achievements. Its initiatives also include the Ekalabya Puraskar, which was established in 1993 to encourage excellence in sports.
The latest awards therefore extend a broader tradition of recognising individuals whose work has contributed to Odisha’s literary, artistic and cultural identity.
