- Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management department WhatsApp chatbot initially provides access to 16 government services through WhatsApp.
- Citizens can use it for land mutation, certificates, registrations and access to Bhulekh records.
- The platform is designed to allow applications and status tracking without visiting government offices.
BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha government has introduced a Revenue WhatsApp chatbot aimed at making essential public services easier to access from home. The platform is designed to reduce physical visits to government offices while allowing citizens to apply for services and track applications digitally.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari unveiled the service, which can be accessed through the WhatsApp number 9437292000.
The chatbot initially provides 16 services, with two additional services expected to be added shortly. The initiative expands Odisha’s use of digital platforms for citizen-facing government services.
Odisha Revenue WhatsApp Chatbot Offers Land and Certificate Services
The new platform covers several services that traditionally require citizens to interact with government offices.
Users can access services related to:
- Land mutation
- Change of land category
- Marriage registration
- Society registration
- Caste certificates
- Income certificates
- Residential certificates
- Bhulekh land records
- Pattas
The ability to access land records and other revenue-related information through a familiar messaging platform could make the system particularly useful for people who find government portals difficult to navigate.
Odisha Revenue WhatsApp Chatbot Adds Application Tracking
The platform is not limited to submitting applications. Citizens can also use it to track the status of their applications, giving them greater visibility into the progress of a service request.
The government is leveraging WhatsApp’s widespread adoption in Odisha, where around 1.65 crore users are reported to use the platform.
Officials said the digital revenue system has already facilitated more than one crore corrections under revenue services, highlighting the scale of the department’s ongoing digitisation efforts.
Odisha Revenue Services Move Further Online
The chatbot is part of a broader push to make government services less dependent on physical interaction.
For citizens, the main benefit is convenience. Applications and status checks can be handled remotely, potentially reducing travel, waiting time and repeated visits to government offices.
Minister Suresh Pujari said the initiative is intended to improve transparency, efficiency and convenience in public service delivery.
The expansion of the chatbot could eventually make WhatsApp a more important access point for Odisha’s digital governance system. As additional services are added, the platform could reduce the gap between citizens and government departments by allowing more routine applications to be completed through a channel people already use every day.
The immediate focus, however, will be on ensuring that applications submitted through the chatbot are processed efficiently and that citizens receive timely updates throughout the service lifecycle.
