Mumbai: Indian benchmark indices staged a strong recovery on Thursday, ending a week-long decline as easing pressure on global bond yields helped revive investor confidence.
The Nifty 50 rose 153.55 points, or 0.64%, to finish at 24,231.85. The BSE Sensex gained 628.04 points, or 0.82%, closing at 77,537.72.
The rebound came despite Brent crude trading above USD 94 a barrel, highlighting how sensitive investors remain to both global liquidity conditions and energy prices.
Sensex Nifty Today: Global Yields Lift Market Sentiment
Market sentiment improved after action by the US Treasury helped ease pressure in global bond markets.
According to Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Investments, the move supported a broad-based recovery by reducing concerns around rising yields and helping emerging-market assets regain some attractiveness.
A weaker dollar and a firmer rupee also provided additional support. Lower pressure from bond yields can be positive for equities because it can improve the relative appeal of risk assets and reduce financing concerns.
Sensex Nifty Today: IT and Financial Stocks Lead
The recovery was broad across major sectors, with IT and financial stocks among the strongest performers.
Nifty Media led the sectoral gainers, rising 2.13%. Nifty Private Bank advanced 0.89%, while Nifty FMCG gained 0.82%.
Nifty IT climbed 0.79%, followed by Nifty Auto at 0.40%, Nifty Pharma at 0.39% and Nifty Metal at 0.28%.
Among individual Nifty 50 stocks, Eternal, Shriram Finance, Kotak Bank and ITC were among the notable gainers.
Tata Consumer, Hindalco, IndiGo, Nestle India and HCL Tech were among the major laggards.
Sensex Nifty Today Outlook Depends on Crude and Global Markets
Despite Thursday’s recovery, investors have not received a clear signal that market volatility is over.
Brent crude remained elevated amid continuing US-Iran tensions. Sustained high energy prices could increase inflationary pressure and raise operating costs for companies, potentially affecting earnings expectations.
Vinod Nair said the market’s near-term direction is likely to depend on movements in global bond yields, energy prices and geopolitical developments.
The broader Asian market also showed strength. Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 1.20%, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 0.91%.
Taiwan’s weighted index advanced 0.48%, while South Korea’s KOSPI recorded a much stronger 5.57% rise. Singapore’s Straits Times was the major exception, ending lower.
For Indian investors, Thursday’s rally provides relief after a week of losses, but the next phase of the market will likely depend on whether global yields remain stable and crude prices begin to ease.
If those pressures persist, investors could continue to see sharp swings even after the latest rebound.
