Puri: Gold jewellery worth more than Rs 50 lakh is allegedly missing from a State Bank of India (SBI) locker at its main branch in Puri, Odisha. A retired headmistress who claims to own the jewellery has filed a police complaint against the bank.

The complainant has been identified as Ashalata Dei, a retired headmistress from Gajapati Nagar under the Kumbharpada police limits in Puri.

According to her complaint, she had placed jewellery valued at more than Rs 50 lakh in an SBI locker on June 16, 2025. She had also deposited Rs 15,000 as a fixed deposit as part of the locker arrangement.

SBI Locker Gold Missing in Puri

Ashalata reportedly visited the SBI branch on September 10 to take out a gold chain from her locker.

The locker was opened using both her key and the key held by the bank’s locker in-charge. However, she allegedly discovered that the container in which she had kept her valuables was no longer inside the locker.

The discovery reportedly left Ashalata and her husband shocked.

The allegation concerns the disappearance of the jewellery from the locker. The exact circumstances surrounding how the valuables allegedly went missing have not been established.

Retired Headmistress Files Police Complaint

Following the discovery, Ashalata submitted a written complaint to the bank’s branch manager.

She subsequently approached the police and lodged an FIR at Puri Town Police Station, submitting supporting documents along with her complaint.

The matter is now subject to investigation. The complaint alleges that jewellery worth over Rs 50 lakh was missing from the SBI locker, while further investigation is expected to establish the circumstances behind the disappearance and determine responsibility.

Police Investigate Alleged Gold Jewellery Disappearance

Ashalata’s complaint states that the locker was accessed jointly using her key and the key held by the locker in-charge. She allegedly found the container containing her jewellery missing when the locker was opened.
