Kuala Lumpur: The completion of the Exercise Samudra Laksamana reflects the growing depth and maturity of naval cooperation between India and Malaysia, the Ministry of Defence said on Monday.

The 4th edition of the bilateral naval exercise was held at Lumut, Malaysia, from September 9 to 12. Indian Naval Ship INS Mysore participated in the exercise with the Royal Malaysian Navy as part of the Indian Navy’s operational deployment to the region.

Exercise Samudra Laksamana Focuses on Naval Cooperation

The exercise provided Indian and Malaysian naval personnel with an opportunity to participate in a wide range of professional and operational activities.

The harbour phase included professional exchanges and interactions between personnel from both navies. According to the Ministry of Defence, these engagements helped the two sides share experiences and develop greater mutual understanding.

The exercise then moved into its operational phase at sea.

INS Mysore Conducts Maritime Exercises

During the sea phase, INS Mysore operated alongside Royal Malaysian Navy ships KD Lekir and KD Gagah Samudera.

The participating ships carried out coordinated maritime evolutions designed to improve interoperability and operational coordination.

The activities also provided an opportunity for the participating forces to strengthen their ability to operate together effectively.

India-Malaysia Naval Partnership Expands

The Ministry of Defence said the successful completion of Exercise Samudra Laksamana demonstrates the growing maturity of naval cooperation between the two countries.

The ministry also highlighted the importance of sustained professional engagement and practical cooperation in developing greater operational understanding between the Indian Navy and Royal Malaysian Navy.

The exercise represents another important engagement in the expanding India-Malaysia maritime partnership.

Defence Cooperation Gains Further Momentum

The naval exercise builds on recent bilateral engagements between India and Malaysia.

The Ministry of Defence highlighted the momentum generated by the 12th India-Malaysia Sub Committee Meeting, held on July 1, 2026, as part of the broader cooperation between the two countries.

Both nations have also been working to strengthen cooperation in defence science, technology and industry.

India and Malaysia Reaffirm Defence Industrial Ties

The 12th Meeting of the India-Malaysia Joint Sub-Committee on Defence Science, Technology and Industry Cooperation was held on July 3, 2026, in New Delhi.

The meeting was co-chaired by Dr. Vijay Namdeorao Zade, Joint Secretary (Naval Systems), Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence, from India, and Mohd Nizam Bin Mohd Khir, Undersecretary, Defence Industry Division, Ministry of Defence, from Malaysia.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to long-term cooperation and strengthening defence industrial ties between the two countries.
