Jharuguda: The Additional District Judge (ADJ) court on Friday rejected the state crime branch’s plea to examine the mental condition of Gopal Das, an accused in the health minister Naba Das murder case, at National Institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience (NIMHANS) in Bengaluru.

The court rejected the plea of the police. A lower court had earlier rejected the same prayer of the Odisha crime branch on February 20. The CB wanted to conduct a comprehensive psychological test of accused Gopal Das at NIMHANS.

Gopal Das’s lawyer Harishankar Agarwal told the media, the application filed by the Crime Branch to check his mental condition, a revision application was filed in the district and sessions court. That case was transferred from the District court and heard in the Court of the Additional sessions court.

During the hearing, the CB argued “we are not asking for remand, but sought permission for examination of his mental condition in more detail in Bengaluru. The Defence lawyer argued the CB’s plea that sending him to police custody means remand. Gopal Das has already been remanded to police custody in Naba Das Murder case.

Notably, the medical board consisting of psychiatrists from SCB Medical college, Cuttack has given a clean chit to Gopal mental health. The medical board has clarified that Gopal is healthy in all aspects. It was informed by Gopal’s lawyer shri Agarwal.

According to the Odisha crime branch police moved one court to another to get permission for Gopal Das’s mental evaluation at National Institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience.
