New Delhi: Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has been named as an accused for the first time in the CBI’s chargesheet in the Delhi liquor policy case. Butchi Babu, auditor of Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader K Kavitha, Arjun Pandey, and liquor trader Amandeep Dhal are also named in the supplemental chargesheet submitted in the case on Tuesday.

Sisodia has applied for bail in the Delhi High Court, stating that no money trail linking him to the proceeds of the alleged crime has been discovered. CBI counsel’s submissions are due on April 26th, according to Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma.
The CBI has used IPC 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 201, and 420, in addition to the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
According to the CBI’s charge sheet, the investigation into the bigger plot and the role of the other defendants in the case is still underway.The CBI filed the first chargesheet on November 25, 2022.
The AAP has strongly denied that the Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021-2022, which granted licences to liquor retailers, favoured particular dealers who reportedly paid bribes. The policy was later repealed.
On February 26, the Central Bureau of Investigation detained Manish Sisodia on suspicion of corruption under Delhi’s new spirits policy. The CBI claimed that the Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021-22, which granted liquor traders licenses, benefited particular dealers who reportedly paid bribes for it. The AAP firmly denied the charge. The policy was later abandoned.
On March 9, he was arrested again by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering charge relating to the same case. The case was eventually heard by the Supreme Court, where Sisodia opposed his arrest. However, the Supreme Court refused to hear his appeal and directed him to first seek the Delhi High Court. Sisodia resigned from the Delhi Cabinet hours after the decision was made.
On Sunday, the CBI summoned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was questioned as a witness in the liquor policy case for approximately 9 hours.
