New Delhi: Dr. Jitendra Singh, the minister of state for science and technology, declared on Saturday that 231 stolen antiques repatriated to India in last 9 years. This contrasts sharply with the meagre 13 antiquities that earlier governments had brought back during the seventy years since independence, he claimed.

The minister emphasised the government’s commitment to safeguarding India’s cultural heritage by establishing Science Museums all around the nation.

Dr. Jitendra Singh mentioned that a number of museums, representing both traditional wisdom and more recent accomplishments like India’s successful COVID-19 vaccination story, have already been constructed in Aspirational Districts.

Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted the function of museums in cultural diplomacy and India’s G-20 Presidency during his visit to the inaugural International Museum Expo 2023 in New Delhi. The expo highlighted technological developments in the museum industry and included prominent artefacts from various museums.

During his visit to the first-ever 3-day International Museum Expo 2023, inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, Jitendra Singh told media persons that in the last 9 years under PM Modi, several unique new initiatives had been undertaken, one of which was the establishment of Science Museums across the country, with a start made by establishing Science Museums in Aspirational Districts.

The minister stated that via the Department of Biotechnology in the Ministry of Science and Technology, museums have already been established in the aspirational district of Chamba in Himachal Pradesh, which was opened a few months ago.

Wayanad in Kerala, Siddharthnagar in Uttar Pradesh, Nuh in Haryana, Dholpur in Rajasthan, Raichur in Karnataka, and Kalyani in West Bengal are other sites where similar museums have either opened or will open soon, he noted.

According to Jitendra Singh, these museums, among other things, display traditional knowledge as well as recent success stories, such as the first ever Covid vaccine success story from India, a display of the immune system related to disease prevention through vaccines, and even include science.
