Delhi High Court withdraws judicial activity from Justice Yashwant Varma

Published on

Delhi High Court: The Delhi High Court has revoked Justice Yashwant Varma’s judicial duties with immediate effect after a significant stockpile of cash was allegedly discovered at his official apartment following a fire. The ruling was published in a notice released by the Supreme Court today.

Another notification on the High Court’s website indicated that the court master of Division Bench-III, which was formerly led by Justice Varma, will now give dates to cases filed before today.

On March 22, the Supreme Court made an unprecedented action by uploading an inquiry report by Delhi High Court Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyaya, which included images and recordings of the alleged discovery of cash at Justice Varma’s apartment.

In his report to Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna, Justice Upadhyaya decided that the occurrence required further investigation. Justice Varma has strenuously disputed the charges, stating that neither he nor his family members ever placed cash in his home’s pantry.
