Varanasi Gang-Rape Case: 23 Men Accused of Gang-Raping Class 12 Student For 7 Days
Varanasi Gang-Rape Case: A concerning incident has come out from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, where the UP Police claim that 23 men kidnapped and gang-raped a Class 12 girl over the course of one week, from March 29 to April 4.
It was disturbing to learn that the teenager knew a number of the the accused. Among them were people she had connected with on Instagram and former classmates.
All 23 of the accused have been the subject of a formal complaint. Eleven remain unidentified, while six have been placed under arrest. To find and apprehend the remaining suspects, a search is still underway.
Varanasi Gang-Rape Case Details
Police said the incident started on March 29 when the Class 12 student missing after being taken to a Varanasi hookah bar by a friend. On April 4, she went back home and told her family, who then filed a complaint with the police.
According to the girl’s mother, the girl had left for a friend’s house that day and didn’t came back.
“As per her statement, on March 29, a friend took her to a hookah bar in the Pishachmochan area, where other men also joined. The girl alleged that she was drugged with a spiked cold drink and then taken to different hotels in the Sigra area, where she was gang-raped,” told by a senior police officer.
It wasn’t the end of her nightmare. She met one of the accused and his buddy on March 30 while she was strolling down the street. After forcing her onto a motorcycle, they drove her to the highway, where she was raped once more before being left behind in Nadesar.
On March 31, the next day, she encountered five more men. They brought her to a restaurant in Maldahiya, where she was gang-raped and drugged once more.
On April 1, she was brought to a hotel where three more guys were waiting by another accused and his acquaintance. She was sexually abused by an unidentified man when she was compelled to massage a client. Another man picked her up after she left the hotel, transported her to another hotel, raped her, and then left her outside.
She was later raped once more at an Aurangabad warehouse by one of the accused, who was accompanied by two other people. After that, she was taken to a different room where she was attacked by two more men.
She was once spotted sitting outside a Sigra mall after escaping. However, the struggle didn’t end there. Two males approached her at the mall on April 2, offered her drug-laced noodles, and one of them sexually assaulted her before leaving her near Assi Ghat.
She arrived at a friend’s house on April 3, but she was still intoxicated and dozed off. Three other males were with them as they brought her to a hotel. After drugging and raping her, the group abandoned her in Chowkaghat.
She was finally brought back home on April 4 after arriving at the neighboring home of another friend.
Survivor’s family filed a complaint at the Lalpur Police Station
A case was quickly opened and the accused were questioned by the police when the survivor’s family complained to the Lalpur Police Station.
They have also started interrogating the hookah bar employees. As part of the investigation, CCTV footage from the site is being analyzed.
Six of the suspects were taken into custody shortly after the preliminary investigation, according to ACP Cantt and Vidush Saxena. Residents of the Hukulganj and Lallapura regions are among those arrested; they were hauled into jail on the same evening. Police have been hesitant to divulge further information, though, because some of the suspects might be children.
DCP Varuna Zone, Chandrakant Mina said that the FIR mentions charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) include Section 70(1) (gang rape), 74 (outraging modesty), 123 (administering poison or harmful substance), 126(2) (obstructing movement), 127(2) (wrongful confinement), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation).
Saxena also mentioned that additional legal procedures are in progress, and multiple teams have been deployed to track down and arrest the remaining accused.
