Heavy Rains Wreak Havoc in Himachal Pradesh: 44 Dead, Yellow Alert Issued

Normal life in Himachal Pradesh has been thrown into chaos as relentless monsoon rains continue to lash the state. Overflowing rivers, rising streams, landslides, and collapsing houses are creating a humanitarian and infrastructural crisis.

Yamuna Crosses Danger Mark in Sirmaur

In the Sirmaur district, the Yamuna River has surged past the danger level, prompting the local administration to deploy divers as a precautionary measure.

Construction on the 450 MW Shongtong hydropower project in Kinnaur district has come to a standstill due to the rising water level of the Sutlej River.

Rising Death Toll and Infrastructure Damage

Statewide, rain-related incidents have claimed 44 lives, while 5 people remain missing. Landslides have disrupted transportation on 259 roads, and 130 drinking water schemes have also been impacted.

The Himachal Pradesh government has directed the district administrations in Mandi, Kullu, and Kangra to closely monitor all major dams to prevent potential disasters.

Yellow Alert Issued

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in multiple regions of the state, valid until July 5. Authorities have appealed to the public to stay vigilant, avoid riverbanks, and refrain from unnecessary travel.
