FM College Protest: Senior BJD leaders Pranab Prakash Das and Pritiranjan Gharai injured

Tensions escalated dramatically in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday as a BJD-led protest at PMG Square demanding a judicial investigation into the Balasore student’s death turned violent. The police used water cannons and tear gas to disperse the crowd, resulting in injuries to several party workers, including senior BJD leaders Pranab Prakash Das and Pritiranjan Gharai.

Pranab Prakash Das, Pritiranjan Gharai Hospitalised

Pritiranjan Gharai, also known as Danny Gharai, was rushed to Capital Hospital’s casualty ward after sustaining injuries from what sources allege was firing during the protest. Meanwhile, Pranab Prakash Das has been admitted to a private hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not yet been officially confirmed.

Protest Escalates Over Student’s Death

The BJD hit the streets demanding justice for Somyashree Bisi, the Fakir Mohan Autonomous College student who succumbed to severe burn injuries after reportedly setting herself on fire due to inaction on her sexual harassment complaint. The BJD is calling for a judicial probe into the incident.

Naveen Patnaik Calls It an ‘Institutional Betrayal’

BJD Chief and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep anguish, calling the student’s death “a premediated injustice and institutional betrayal.” He confirmed that the party will continue its agitation until a judicial investigation is ordered.
