The 20th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme will be released on August 2, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to lead the mega event from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The announcement comes after a high-level preparatory meeting chaired by Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the national capital.
Nationwide Campaign to Reach Maximum Farmers
Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan instructed officials to ensure maximum farmer participation at national, state, district, and village levels. He emphasized turning the event into a nationwide campaign and urged farmers to join in large numbers.
“Under PM Modi’s leadership, ₹6,000 is directly credited to farmers annually in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each, every four months,” the Minister reiterated.
Massive Virtual Participation
The meeting was attended virtually by:
- Directors of 731 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs)
- Vice Chancellors of Agricultural Universities
- Senior officials from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)
- State-level agriculture department representatives
The Minister stressed the importance of real-time coordination to ensure seamless delivery of the 20th installment.
Significance of PM-KISAN Scheme
Launched in 2019, PM-KISAN is a flagship Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme aimed at providing income support to small and marginal farmers across India. So far, over ₹2.40 lakh crore has been disbursed to more than 11 crore farmers.
The upcoming 20th installment is expected to benefit millions of farmers, offering critical financial support ahead of the Kharif season.
PM Modi’s Varanasi Event
Prime Minister Modi will directly engage with farmers and agricultural scientists during the Varanasi event. He is expected to highlight the achievements of Indian agriculture, the role of technology, and the government’s commitment to farmer welfare.
The event will be livestreamed across the country through Common Service Centres (CSCs), Panchayat offices, KVKs, and Krishi Vikas Kendras, enabling wide-scale participation.
With the 20th PM-KISAN installment set to be released on August 2, the government continues its mission to ensure timely income support to farmers. The large-scale participation of agricultural institutions and the Prime Minister’s leadership from Varanasi reflects the scheme’s national significance and its vital role in empowering India’s agrarian backbone.
