  KEY TAKEAWAYS:
  • BJD claims nearly 27 lakh voter names have been removed during Odisha’s electoral roll revision.
  • The party alleges around 7 lakh names are missing from the latest draft electoral roll.
  • BJD has urged the Election Commission to simplify the revision process and protect eligible voters.

BHUBANESWAR: The BJD alleges voter deletion in Odisha during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, claiming that nearly 27 lakh names have been removed. The regional party said the figure is significantly higher than the officially stated 20 lakh and has demanded greater transparency from the Election Commission.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, senior BJD leaders questioned the sharp decline in the number of registered voters and called for immediate corrective measures to ensure that no eligible citizen loses the right to vote.

BJD Alleges Voter Deletion in Odisha During SIR Exercise

Senior Vice President Debi Mishra and General Secretary Bijay Nayak said the electoral database previously showed 3,40,72,744 registered voters. According to the party, the number later declined to around 3.33 crore when the Special Intensive Revision began and has now fallen further to nearly 3.13 crore in the draft electoral roll.

The BJD alleged that approximately 7 lakh voter names remain unaccounted for and claimed that more than 10,000 voters have been removed in each of 75 Assembly constituencies. The party argued that the scale of the reduction raises serious questions about the ongoing verification process.

Election Commission Asked to Ensure Fair Electoral Roll Revision

The BJD said the Special Intensive Revision has become increasingly complex, creating confusion among voters and officials at the grassroots level. Party leaders recalled the Odisha Chief Electoral Officer’s earlier assurance that no genuine voter would be removed during the exercise.

BJD Seeks Transparent Verification Process

The party urged the Election Commission to simplify the revision procedure and make the verification process more transparent. It said only ineligible or duplicate entries should be deleted, while every eligible voter must remain on the electoral rolls.

The Election Commission has not yet responded publicly to the latest allegations. The electoral roll revision process continues, and the final voter list will play a crucial role in upcoming elections across the state.
