Cabinet Approves ₹11,169 Crore Multitracking Railway Projects Across 6 States, Including Odisha

New Delhi: In a major infrastructure push, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved four multitracking railway projects worth approximately ₹11,169 crore. These projects will add 574 kilometers to the Indian Railways network and generate 2.29 crore human-days of direct employment during construction.

The approved projects span across 13 districts in the states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand and are slated for completion by 2028-29.

Expected Impact

  • 574 km addition to railway network
  • Enhanced multi-modal connectivity under the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan
  • Improved logistics efficiency and freight movement capacity by 95.91 MTPA (Million Tonnes Per Annum)
  • Connectivity to 2,309 villages with a combined population of 43.60 lakh
  • Helps meet climate goals with:
    • Reduction in CO₂ emissions by 515 crore kg
    • Saving 16 crore litres of fuel
    • Environmental impact equivalent to planting 20 crore trees

Employment & Economic Boost

The projects are expected to create over 2.29 crore human-days of employment, supporting the government’s goal of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ through regional development and job creation.

Vision for the Future

The multi-tracking upgrade is part of the Modi Government’s broader agenda to modernize railway infrastructure, ensure faster, safer, and greener mobility, and enhance India’s competitiveness in global logistics.

Officials said the integration of stakeholder consultations and logistics planning through PM Gati Shakti will ensure minimal delays and optimized implementation.
