Chandrayaan-3: Most-watched Livestream on YouTube

Published on

Chandrayaan-3: While writing history and exploring new space, Chandrayaan-3 was also breaking records on Earth. The webcast of the Vikram lander’s touchdown yesterday was watched by more than 80 lakh people at the same time on YouTube, breaking the previous record by more than 18 lakh.

According to sacnilk.com, 61.5 lakh people watched the match between Brazil and Croatia during the FIFA World Cup in December 2022, breaking a record established just four days earlier. The webcast for the match versus Croatia outnumbered the livestream for the play between Brazil and South Korea, which drew 52 lakh viewers.

CazeTV, a Brazilian channel, broadcast both matches, while the Isro Official channel broadcast the Chandrayaan-3 landing.

Prior to the arrival of Chandrayaan-3, football – and CazeTV – held the three top spots on the list, with a match between Brazilian clubs Vasco De Gama and Flamengo attracting 48 lakh concurrent viewers in March of this year.

SpaceX’s ‘Crew Demo-2’ and ‘BTS Butter Official MV’ streams came in fourth and fifth, with 41 lakh and 37.4 lakh views, respectively.

The Vikram lander made history yesterday when it successfully landed near the Moon’s south pole, making India the only country in the world to do so. India has also joined the select club of countries that have made a gentle landing on Earth’s sole natural satellite, joining Russia, the United States, and China.

Several hours after the touchdown, the Pragyan rover slid out. With a combined six scientific payloads, the lander and rover have one lunar day, or 14 Earth days, to collect data.
