Desi Oon, an animated film by acclaimed filmmaker Suresh Eriyat, has made India proud by winning the Jury Award for Best Commissioned Film at the Annecy International Animation Festival 2025 held in France — one of the most prestigious platforms in the global animation industry.
The film had earlier won Best Film at WAVES 2025 (World Audio, Video and Entertainment Summit) in Mumbai, India’s leading platform recognizing excellence in animation and design. Desi Oon has also been shortlisted at Cannes Lions 2025 under the Film Craft Lions category, marking a significant achievement for India’s animation sector.
In an exclusive interview with Akashvani News, Suresh Eriyat credited the Create in India Challenge by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) for inspiring this creative breakthrough. The challenge, part of WAVES 2025, aims to discover and promote India’s creative talent on the global stage.
Desi Oon’s global recognition places Indian animation firmly on the world map and sets a benchmark for upcoming creators in the country.
