G7 Summit: On May 21, in Hiroshima, during the G7 Summit, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi met H.E. Mr. Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the President of Brazil.

The two leaders were meeting for the first time at this time. The leaders acknowledged that this year was the diplomatic ties’ 75th anniversary year. They addressed how to further enhance their strategic partnership, particularly in the areas of military manufacturing, trade, medicines, agriculture, dairy and animal husbandry, and biofuels and clean energy.

Both leaders emphasised the importance of setting up a high-level gathering of business executives from both nations.

The leaders discussed recent regional developments. They emphasised the value of ongoing cooperation on multilateral platforms and the ongoing need for multilateral institution reform.

The Prime Minister was eager to welcome President Lula to India for the G-20 Summit in September of this year.
