  • IndiGo schedules 10 special relief flights from Jeddah for stranded passengers.

New Delhi: The Middle East airspace disruption has triggered urgent action from India’s aviation authorities, affecting international flight operations between India and the Gulf. The Civil Aviation Ministry confirmed it is closely monitoring developments as airlines recalibrate schedules and reroute aircraft to avoid restricted zones.

The immediate impact has been longer flight times, altered schedules, and temporary service reductions. The data suggests airlines are prioritising safety over speed, even at the cost of operational efficiency.

Civil Aviation Ministry Reviews Middle East Airspace Disruption

A high level meeting chaired by K. Rammohan Naidu assessed the evolving situation. Senior officials, including Samir Kumar Sinha, reviewed operational risks and contingency planning.

Officials confirmed that Indian carriers have introduced calibrated schedule adjustments. Long haul and ultra long haul routes are progressively resuming through alternative corridors that bypass restricted airspace.

What the market is missing is the scale of coordination required behind the scenes. Airlines are repositioning aircraft and crew to stabilise networks. That process involves regulatory clearances, slot management, and real time diplomatic coordination.

IndiGo Relief Flights and Gulf Route Adjustments

In a direct response to passenger disruption, IndiGo has scheduled 10 special relief flights from Jeddah to India on March 3. These flights aim to bring back stranded travellers, subject to airspace approvals.

The airline is coordinating with the Consulate General of India in Jeddah to streamline passenger processing. Additional capacity is being deployed where feasible.

Foreign carriers operating between India and Gulf destinations are also running limited services, depending on operational feasibility. This selective restoration shows that risk assessments vary by airline and aircraft type.

Passenger Advisory Amid Middle East Airspace Disruption

The Ministry has reiterated that passenger safety remains the top priority. Airlines have been instructed to maintain transparent communication and comply with refund and rescheduling norms.

Travellers are advised to check flight status directly with their airlines before heading to airports. Authorities have also urged passengers to rely only on official updates.

The broader implication is clear. Airspace volatility in geopolitically sensitive regions can ripple across global aviation networks within hours. For India, which has deep travel and economic links with the Gulf, even short term disruptions require swift government and airline coordination.

The Ministry said it remains in continuous contact with airlines, airport operators, regulators and the Ministry of External Affairs. Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
