Bhubaneswar: The two-day International Symposium on Shree Anna (Millets) and Women Farmers 2025 concluded successfully at the Lokaseva Bhavan Convention Centre in Bhubaneswar. The event, organized by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, focused on “The Role of Women in Conservation of Agricultural Heritage and Biodiversity.”

Shivraj Singh Chouhan Praises Odisha’s Millet Initiatives

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who attended the inaugural session alongside Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, lauded Odisha for its remarkable leadership in millet promotion and conservation of agricultural heritage.

He highlighted that Odisha is the only state in India to dedicate a special day to millets — the Odisha Millet Day. Chouhan also praised the state for being the first to issue guidelines for landrace conservation and for introducing women-centric agricultural machinery testing standards.

Odisha Leads in Shree Anna Research and Innovation

The Union Minister commended the state’s efforts in publishing the Millet Foundation Guide, describing it as the first-of-its-kind resource compiling extensive research data and knowledge materials on Shree Anna (Millets). He emphasized that this initiative positions Odisha as a national leader in millet research, production, and policy innovation.

Women Farmers at the Core of Odisha’s Agricultural Growth

Acknowledging the vital role of women in agriculture, Chouhan appreciated the state’s inclusive approach to empowering women farmers through innovative schemes and policies. The symposium celebrated their role in conserving biodiversity and preserving traditional agricultural practices.

Event Concludes with Governor’s Address

The event concluded with Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati attending the closing ceremony and congratulating all stakeholders for their contributions toward sustainable agriculture and millet promotion.

The International Symposium on Shree Anna and Women Farmers 2025 reaffirmed Odisha’s commitment to agricultural innovation, biodiversity, and women’s empowerment in farming.
