Odisha Govt Simplifies Land Title Process For Buyers

Published on

Bhubaneswar: In a major administrative reform, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved key amendments to the Odisha Survey and Settlement Rules, simplifying the process of obtaining land titles (Record of Rights) for property buyers across the state.

New Rules Empower Tehsildars to Issue Land Titles

The amended provisions empower Tehsildars to directly record land ownership in the buyer’s name, eliminating the earlier requirement of filing appeals before the Board of Revenue or Revision Courts.

This change is expected to significantly reduce delays and ease the burden on higher authorities, ensuring faster resolution of land title issues.

Relief for Buyers Waiting for Record of Rights (RoR)

Thousands of individuals who purchased land before the Settlement Operation but never received the Record of Rights (RoR) in their name will now benefit from this reform.

Buyers can now approach their respective Tehsildar offices with valid purchase documents to get land titles updated without going through long legal procedures.

Boost to Transparency and Ease of Doing Business

Officials believe that the move will enhance transparency in land administration, improve citizen services, and contribute to Odisha’s broader ease of doing business framework.

By decentralizing the authority to Tehsildars, the government aims to make land title transfers quicker, fairer, and more accessible to common citizens.
