  KEY TAKEAWAYS:
  • Y. B. Khurania warned criminals of strict police action.
  • Odisha Police executed more than 1,700 non-bailable warrants in five days.
  • Six persons were booked under the National Security Act during the crackdown.

Bhubaneswar: Y. B. Khurania on Sunday issued a strong warning to criminals, saying there is “no place” for offenders in Odisha and those attempting to disturb law and order should be prepared to face police action, including encounters.

The Odisha DGP’s remarks came as the state police intensified a major anti-crime drive targeting absconders, habitual offenders and illegal networks linked to narcotics and firearms.

Khurania said recent police encounters in Berhampur and Sambalpur should serve as a warning for criminals operating in the state.

Odisha Police Crackdown Intensifies Across State

According to the DGP, Odisha Police have launched an extensive enforcement operation over the past few days aimed at strengthening law and order across districts.

Key actions taken during the drive include:

  • More than 1,700 non-bailable warrants executed
  • Six persons booked under the National Security Act
  • Over 50 absconding criminals arrested
  • Enhanced surveillance on released prisoners and repeat offenders

Khurania said the operation will continue for the next 10 days with intensified monitoring and ground-level policing.

Odisha Police Target Narcotics and Firearms Networks

The DGP stated that the crackdown is not limited to absconders but also focuses heavily on organised criminal activities involving narcotics and illegal firearms trade.

He said police teams across Odisha have been instructed to actively identify and dismantle criminal networks operating in different regions.

The second-order effect of sustained statewide enforcement could be increased deterrence against organised crime, especially in districts that have recently witnessed rising gang activity and illegal arms circulation.

Police officials also believe intelligence-led monitoring of habitual offenders may help prevent retaliatory violence and repeat offences.

District SPs Asked to Strengthen Ground-Level Policing

Khurania said all district Superintendents of Police have been directed to work aggressively at the field level to improve public safety and maintain law and order.

The state government’s current strategy appears focused on visible policing, rapid enforcement and preventive surveillance to reassure the public amid concerns over rising criminal activity.

The Odisha Police crackdown comes at a time when several high-profile criminal incidents have drawn public attention across the state in recent weeks.
