India National Cricket Team vs Pakistan National Cricket Team: The long-anticipated Pakistan India T20 World Cup match has been officially cleared after the Pakistan government reversed its earlier decision to block the fixture. The men’s team will now take the field against archrivals India on February 15 in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, ending days of uncertainty surrounding one of cricket’s most high-profile encounters.

The decision follows sustained pressure from the International Cricket Council and diplomatic appeals from regional partners, prompting Islamabad to step back from its boycott stance.

Pakistan India T20 World Cup Match Cleared After ICC Intervention

Earlier, the Pakistan government had directed the team not to play India as a symbolic gesture of support for Bangladesh. The move came after the ICC rejected Bangladesh’s request to relocate its matches from India to Sri Lanka over security concerns, subsequently replacing Bangladesh with Scotland in the tournament lineup.

However, the ICC adopted a firm position against Pakistan’s threat to boycott the match, warning of potential consequences. This stance, combined with formal requests from the Bangladesh Cricket Board and diplomatic outreach from Sri Lanka, set the stage for a reversal.

Regional Diplomacy Influences Islamabad’s Decision

In an official statement, the Pakistan government confirmed it had reviewed formal representations from the Bangladesh Cricket Board, along with supporting communications from Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, and other ICC member nations. These appeals urged Pakistan to help find a constructive resolution to the escalating dispute.

The government also cited remarks by BCB President Aminul Islam, noting Bangladesh’s expression of gratitude and reiterating Pakistan’s solidarity with Dhaka. Officials emphasised that the decision was taken in the spirit of regional cooperation and multilateral consensus.

Shehbaz Sharif Holds Talks With Sri Lankan President

The statement further revealed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Monday evening. During the call, both leaders reflected on the long-standing ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, particularly during times of crisis.

The Sri Lankan President reportedly urged Sharif to give serious consideration to resolving the impasse amicably, a request that played a key role in Islamabad’s final decision.
