Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead on May 29 last year in Punjab’s Jawaharke village of Mansa district, a day after the Punjab government removed his security cover, the circumstances of which were made public.

Charan Kaur took to Instagram and shared a Punjabi message in which she recalled the day her baby was born and how she held him in her arms. She described how Sidhu Moose Wala saw the “truth” through his eyes and travelled around the world while ‘staying in his town’ through his work.

She has written in the Punjabi, “Happy birthday, son. My wishes and prayers came true on this day when I held you for the first time, feeling the warmth of my bosom.” And I found out that Akal Purakh had given me a son. Blessings. I hope you’re aware that there was a faint redness on the small feet, who had no idea that these small steps had travelled the entire world while sitting in the hamlet, and thick eyes with which you would see and recognise the truth. They had no idea you were offering the Punjabi generation a new perspective on the world.”
