PM Modi Chairs Security Meet as Nepal Violence Protests Escalate
Nepal violence protests: Soon after returning from his visit to flood-hit Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a late-night meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to discuss the worsening unrest in Nepal. The meeting came amid reports of intensifying violence that has claimed several lives, particularly among young demonstrators. Expressing deep anguish, Modi urged calm and appealed to the people of Nepal to uphold peace and unity, reaffirming that India places the highest importance on Nepal’s stability, prosperity, and security.
Modi appeals for peace amid ongoing Nepal violence protests
In a message shared on X, Prime Minister Modi said, “On my return from Himachal Pradesh and Punjab today, a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security discussed the developments in Nepal. The violence in Nepal is heart-rending. I am anguished that many young people have lost their lives. The stability, peace and prosperity of Nepal are of utmost importance to us. I humbly appeal to all my brothers and sisters in Nepal to support peace.” He also reiterated the same appeal in Hindi and Nepali, underlining India’s strong ties with its closest neighbor.
CCS reviews security situation as Nepal violence protests intensify
The Cabinet Committee on Security, the government’s apex decision-making body on matters of national security, met to evaluate the unfolding crisis. Although specific details were not disclosed, officials confirmed that the situation in Nepal is being monitored at the highest levels. The discussions focused on regional stability, security interests, and the implications of unrest spreading across Nepal’s major cities. Modi emphasized that India will remain a committed partner in supporting peace and prosperity in Nepal.
Political turmoil deepens with resignation amid Nepal violence protests
The unrest in Nepal escalated following Gen Z-led demonstrations triggered by a controversial social media ban and widespread anger over corruption. With tensions surging, the protests have left at least 20 people dead and more than 400 injured. Under mounting public and political pressure, Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned, highlighting the depth of the crisis. Although the government lifted the social media ban in an attempt to reduce tensions, the demonstrations have continued across several regions.
Youth-led demonstrations demand reforms during Nepal violence protests
Despite government concessions, young demonstrators have refused to back down. The protests, largely driven by Nepal’s youth, demand systemic reforms, transparency, and accountability from political leaders. Their persistence reflects growing frustration over corruption and lack of opportunities.
