Similipal Tiger Reserve Reopens Early for Tourists

Published on

The Similipal Tiger Reserve, one of India’s largest and most biodiverse forest areas located in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha, has reopened its gates to tourists ten days ahead of schedule. Traditionally, the park opens on November 1, but this year it welcomed visitors early, marking the beginning of the new tourist season.

Similipal, India’s eighth biosphere reserve, attracts thousands of nature enthusiasts every year for its majestic waterfalls, dense forests, and rare wildlife including royal Bengal tigers and elephants. The Forest Department has issued new entry rules to ensure eco-friendly and safe tourism practices.

Similipal Tiger Reserve Reopens Early With Revised Entry Rules

The Similipal Tiger Reserve reopens early for tourists with controlled entry through two main gates — Pithabata (Baripada) and Kaliani (Jashipur). Only a limited number of four-wheeled vehicles are permitted to maintain ecological balance and prevent overcrowding.

Tourists are advised to reach early since entries are granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the daily limit is reached, no additional vehicles will be allowed inside.

Visitor Guidelines for Similipal Tiger Reserve

The Forest Department has implemented several eco-tourism measures to protect the biodiversity of Similipal. Visitors must follow these new guidelines strictly:

Similipal: A Jewel in Odisha’s Natural Heritage

Spread across lush greenery and rolling hills, Similipal Tiger Reserve is part of the UNESCO-recognized Similipal Biosphere Reserve. It covers an area rich in biodiversity, housing species such as the royal Bengal tiger, leopard, gaur, sambar deer, and more than 230 species of birds. The park also features popular tourist attractions like Barehipani and Joranda waterfalls, which rank among India’s tallest.

The Forest Department hopes that the early reopening will give a boost to local eco-tourism and create livelihood opportunities for nearby tribal communities while ensuring that conservation goals remain intact.
