BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha electoral roll revision exercise has entered a crucial phase as Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar Bharati begins a two-day visit to the state to review the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The visit aims to assess progress, monitor implementation and ensure the timely completion of the voter verification exercise across Odisha.
Senior Election Official to Review Progress
During his visit, Bharati is scheduled to hold meetings with district collectors and electoral registration officers from across the state.
The discussions will focus on:
- Progress of the Special Intensive Revision
- Digitisation of voter data

- Timely completion of electoral roll updates
He will also visit Ganjam district to review field-level operations and interact with election officials involved in the process.

According to election authorities, the distribution of enumeration forms has achieved significant progress.
As of June 15:
- Forms were distributed to 3,31,13,184 voters.
- Statewide coverage reached 99.14 percent.
The achievement reflects one of the largest voter verification exercises undertaken in Odisha in recent years.
Digitisation Moving at Rapid Pace
The digitisation process has also gained momentum.
Officials reported that:
- 1,43,16,029 voter records have been digitised.
- Overall digitisation stands at 42.86 percent.
The digitised database is expected to improve the accuracy and transparency of electoral rolls while simplifying future voter management processes.
Sundargarh Emerges as Top Performer
Sundargarh District has emerged as the leading district in the revision exercise.
The district has:
- Reached all eligible voters with enumeration forms.
- Digitised 62.71 percent of collected data.
Election officials described Sundargarh’s performance as a model for other districts.
Focus on Accurate Electoral Rolls
Once digitisation is completed, authorities will begin deleting records of deceased voters and those who have permanently migrated.
The objective is to publish an updated and error-free electoral roll before future elections.
The second-order impact of the exercise includes improved electoral transparency, reduced duplication and greater voter database accuracy.
Chief Minister Participates in SIR Campaign
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also participated in the campaign by filling out his own enumeration form at Raikala village in Keonjhar district.
The move was highlighted by the Chief Electoral Officer Odisha as an effort to encourage public participation in the voter verification process.
Majhi urged citizens to cooperate with district administrations and Booth Level Officers during door-to-door verification, stressing the importance of maintaining a flawless and transparent voters’ list.
Mission Mode Exercise Continues
The Special Intensive Revision is being conducted under the directions of the Election Commission of India in mission mode.
With coverage already crossing 99 percent and digitisation progressing steadily, Odisha is moving closer to achieving a comprehensive and updated electoral database aimed at strengthening the integrity of the democratic process.
