BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed immediate action over errors detected in government school textbooks, emphasizing accountability and quality in educational publications.

Chairing a high-level review meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan, the Chief Minister instructed officials to identify the causes of the mistakes and ensure that all inaccuracies are corrected without delay.

High-Level Committee Formed

To investigate the issue, the state government has constituted a three-member committee under the chairmanship of the Development Commissioner.

The committee has been tasked with:

  • Identifying officials responsible for the errors.
  • Examining the textbook preparation and publication process.
  • Recommending corrective measures.
  • Submitting its report within seven days.

Based on the committee’s findings, the government has indicated that strict disciplinary action will be taken against those found responsible.

Education Department Officials Attend Review

The meeting was attended virtually by School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond, Chief Secretary Anu Garg and senior officials of the department.

Discussions focused on the nature of the errors, accountability mechanisms and measures needed to prevent similar lapses in future publications.

Concern Over Education Quality

The Chief Minister expressed concern that mistakes in school textbooks can affect the credibility of the education system and create confusion among students.

He stressed that educational materials must maintain the highest standards of accuracy, particularly when they are used by lakhs of students across the state.

Majhi directed the School and Mass Education Department to undertake a comprehensive review of the textbook preparation process.

The government aims to ensure that future editions of textbooks are free from factual, linguistic and printing errors.
