Shri Bhupender Yadav meets with the German Delegation to discuss sustainable development pathways

New Delhi: The German delegation, led by H.E. Mr. Ralph Brinkhaus, and the Indian delegation, led by Shri Bhupender Yadav, Union Minister of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, met in New Delhi today for a bilateral meeting of the German Indian Parliamentary Group of the German Federal Parliament (Bundestag).

According to Shri Bhupender Yadav, we discussed approaches to achieve sustainable development, paying particular attention to the circular economy, addressing single-use plastic, managing forests, and climate resilience.

The German delegation brought up topics such as the effect of climate change on forests, trilateral environmental and climate cooperation in Africa, circular economies, and plastics substitutes, as well as how both nations may further explore bilateral cooperation in these areas.

In response to the questions posed by the German delegation, Shri Yadav emphasised the significance of the Prime Minister’s Mission LiFE initiative. He talked about the different measures India has done to reduce plastic waste, plastic substitutes, the conservation of forests and endangered species, forest surveys, and agroforestry.

Through bilateral collaboration, Germany has made efforts in the fields of technology, water, circular economy, and forestry, which have been acknowledged and welcomed by Shri Yadav.

Both parties acknowledged at the meeting’s conclusion that they share interests in a variety of sectors and may look into expanding bilateral collaboration in new fields such energy technology, biodiversity conservation, and climate change, among others.
